Nowa Muzyka Percussion Festival 2019

Nowa Muzyka 2019 -002.jpg

Performance of two works in the 2019 Nowa Muzyka Festival in Bydgoszcz, Poland. This was the first time that I have visited the north of Poland, and it was such a wonderful welcome and atmosphere. I am very grateful to have been able to hear my works performed here and also to have discovered a new region.

The concert included the premiere of Altérité - written in 2019 for two percussionists and solo violin - by Piotr Sutt, Bartłomiej Sutt (percussion) and Karolina Sutt (violin). This work was inspired by one of the opening scenes in Virginia Woolf’s Mrs Dalloway, opening with the text “in so many words…”

Additionally, was the performance of Lux Aeterna for percussionist and sound/light electronics, by Bartłomiej Sutt, who the piece was first composed for. I was fortunate enough to be able to join the performance for this piece, and experienced the work from the perspective of a concert hall as opposed to its original art gallery setting.

To be a part of a Nowa Muzyka festival and to discover such a wonderful part of the world was a not only fun, it was a huge learning experience about the ins and outs of getting together a day’s worth of music in the context of an extended series of concerts. From all aspects of production to performance and the audience - Thank you to everyone involved with the festival!
